In various industrial applications, enclosures are used to house networking equipment to protect them from the harsh environments. These enclosures are designed to a specification to suit the environment where they are deployed which includes the size and materials used. Many of these enclosures have a very limited amount of space for devices, so careful planning must be done. For example, a traffic control cabinet can hold various networking equipment with wires running throughout the enclosure to ensure traffic safety and control.
Surveillance cameras monitor intersections and highways to collect traffic data which are connected to a power source in a nearby control cabinet. IP cameras are more commonly installed in surveillance applications due to the Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability on the device. PoE provides power and data over the same copper Ethernet cord thus reducing the amount of wiring needed and eliminating the need for additional power connectivity . The use of IP cameras and PoE is ideal for situations where space can be limited; however, the size of the device supplying Power over Ethernet must still be taken into consideration. Utilizing small form factor devices would make for a simpler space management and would allow for additional devices to be installed.
Antaira’s LNP-C500G is the ideal solution. The LNP-C500G is a compact, small form factored* metal IP30 rated PoE unmanaged switch. This device is perfect for working in enclosures or environments with limited space; and with its rugged design, it can withstand temperatures of -40°C to 75°C. The LNP-C500G has four-gigabit ports that support IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at PoE, and one standard gigabit port. Each individual PoE port supplies 30W of power. The device requires no setup and makes installation and connectivity simple and reliable.
