NAT Firewall

Firewalls are a critical component for any network infrastructure looking to secure its network. A NAT firewall is a simple solution that any industry can utilize to prevent unwanted access to its private networks. NAT stands for Network Address Translation - a technology used to modify IP datagram packet headers while they are being transmitted between routing devices. This allows two different IP networks, that have incompatible addressing, to communicate with one another. A vital capability of NAT is that it is not limited to a one-to-one translation. NATs can translate multiple IP addresses; thus, allowing large networks to connect to the Internet using only a single public IP address. By doing so, it reduces the cost of having to obtain multiple public addresses. The ability to modify a network address is also known as IP masquerading which became a popular technology and is usually implemented together with a firewall.

A firewall is a security system that sits between an organization’s private network and the outside network (Internet). It monitors and controls all network traffic on the ingress and egress side of things based on set security rules. The combination of a NAT and a firewall provide a strong level of security. It ensures that malicious data won't get into the network while also preventing attackers from seeing what is being sent out.
