Industry: Security / Transportation / Remote Communication
Location: Global
BACKGROUND
Two highly capable technology companies have partnered to develop solutions for challenging applications in transportation and communication. Since 2005, Antaira Technologies, a global company with headquarters in Brea, CA, has been helping companies solve complex networking problems. In Colorado Springs, CO, Terra Ferma founder Dennis Roark developed PoE solutions for the most demanding communication environments, especially global military communications where reliability and ruggedness are critical to the success of the mission. Together, these two companies have a long history of bringing solutions to some of the toughest applications in the world.
THE CHALLENGE
With momentum serving the needs of the global military communications, the partners saw opportunities in transportation and non-military communications such as DOT cameras and digital signage, as well as communications via transmission towers and temporary, emergency comms systems like FEMA or the National Guard. In addition, the power requirements of these systems often exceed the PoE market standard of 60 watts.
Tapping into the extensive experience and expertise of both companies, Antaira and Terra Ferma have developed an evolutionary Power over Ethernet switch that will reliably provide over 90 WATTS of power per device, even in the toughest environments. The industrial PoE switch, protected with an aluminum housing and conformal coating resisting sunlight, salt water and corrosion, will operate in a wide range of temperatures (-40 to 140F), low and high frequency vibration (examples: highway or a bridge), is crush resistant (you can drive over it!), while resisting impacts and is unaffected by humidity/rain, or even submerged in water.
The industrial PoE switch is readily mounted on any surface – bridge, guardrail, or pole, as well as in a tent, vehicle, or placed on any surface.
The rugged and durable industrial PoE switch sets up in minutes to get a National Guard outpost operational after a natural disaster, or a highway camera functioning with full power during a state of emergency.
The resilient rugged PoE switch is designed for years of maintenance-free service. The sealed unit contains no filters or other serviceable parts requiring annual maintenance. Software updates can be administered locally or over the network. The Antaira designed software can be configured in mass via a central network connected server minimizing expertise required during installation or local operations.
THE SOLUTION
The partnership of Antaira and Terra Ferma has created a solution that will readily solve a wide range of PoE challenges in transportation and communication in austere environments. The industrial switch can operate with a wide range of AC (110/220) and DC (12 to 48v) power inputs, or AC with DC (a solar panel, for example) as a backup. The industrial PoE switch will deliver 90 Watts at regulated 56V PoE power reliably to keep you up and running in all conditions for many years.
The Rugged™ PoE switch adds another dimension to Antaira’s full line of industrial PoE switches, Ethernet, media converters, and serial communication solutions. By implementing Antaira's LMP-0804G-SFP-BT-BB-CC-CAM switch and Terra Ferma’s PoE Switch enclosure, operators can stop worrying about reliability in their digital signage, cameras, and radios on bridges, intersections, or in remote communication systems and focus on operations of the system.
